JERSEY EMPLOYER'S NETWORK ON DISABILITY
JEND is made up of a growing number of employers in the Island who are committed to providing real jobs for individuals with a disability. These employers work in partnership with local support agencies and charities to maximise work experience and employment opportunities.
What is disability? People with disabilities is taken to include any person with an impairment of a physical, sensory, mental or intellectual nature who faces obstacles to participation on equal and equally effective terms with all others in all aspects of the life of the community.
The European Commission (2001) regards disabilities as including HIV, MND, cancer and other degenerative diseases.
If your organisation, in its capacity as an employer, takes no action other than to shout when in doubt, the lives of a significant number of disabled individuals can be transformed.
The world of work offers not only an income but also status, a sense of well being, meaningful occupation and the social networks that so many of us take for granted.
JEND holds quarterly breakfast meetings and presentations from different disability organisations and a chance to network with other employers. JEND also offers advice to employers.
